Four European Models of Cultural Mediation – A Comparative Perspective

Jacob Als Thomsen, Executive Manager at Als Research ApS & external lecturer at the Department of Minority Studies, Copenhagen University, Denmark

In September, Als Research finished a rapport for The Danish National Board of Health on European experiences with cultural mediation in the health services. The lecture will address some of the conclusion put forward, and point out the difficulties of separating the problems of cultural versus linguistic translation. It will be pointed out how different European approaches to cultural mediation are closely linked to interpretations of patient rights and general policies of integration.
