[Unofficial translation] LAW No. 2000-1207 OF 13 DECEMBER 2000 LAW ON OVERSEAS ORIENTATION NOR:INTX0000028L [...] TITLE IV: ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF OVERSEAS CULTURE AND IDENTITIES Section 33 The State and the local collectives shall encourage the respect, the protection and the maintenance of the knowledge, innovations and practices of the local and autochthonous communities based on their traditional ways of life, which contribute to the preservation of the natural environment and the sustainable usage of the biological diversity.
Section 34 The regional languages used in the overseas departments are part of the linguistic heritage of the Nation. They shall benefit from the reinforcement of policies promoting the regional languages in order to facilitate their use. The Law no. 51-46 of 11 January 1951 on the Teaching of Local Languages and Dialects is applicable . [...] Section 40 The State shall allocate funds with the aim of promoting the educational, cultural and sport exchanges of the inhabitants of these departments towards the metropolis or the countries located in their regional environment, as a partnership with the territorial collectives of the overseas departments which apply for it.
