The schools, middle schools (colleges), secondary schools
(lycées) and higher education centres shall be responsible
for transmitting and providing knowledge and working methods. They shall
contribute to encourage equality among men and women. They shall ensure
the teaching of the knowledge and of respect of human rights as well
as the comprehension of particular harmful situations. They shall offer
a teaching adapted, in its contents and methods, to the economic, social
and cultural evolutions of the country and its European and international
environment. Such teaching may include the teaching, at all levels,
of regional languages and cultures. […]

I. – The command of the French language and the knowledge of
two more languages shall be part of the fundamental objectives of the

The teaching of regional languages and cultures may be provided throughout
schooling.
The Higher Council of Education (Conseil supérieur de l'éducation)
shall be consulted, in accordance with the attributions set in section
L. 231-1, on the means to promote the study of regional languages and
cultures in the regions where these languages are used.
Section L312-11
Teachers shall be authorised to make use of regional languages in
primary and nursery schools whenever they can benefit from it for their
teaching, especially for the study of the French language.
