OBSERVATORY OF THE CATALAN LANGUAGE

The Observatory of the Catalan Language is due to an initiative from a series of civil and cultural organisations to create an independent body which counts on academic expertise and a wide consensus within the Catalan society. It aims to follow up and assess the situation of the Catalan language, as regards both its social use and its legal framework.

L’Observatori de la llengua catalana és una iniciativa de tot un seguit d’entitats cíviques i culturals que han volgut crear un organisme independent, que tingui un ampli consens en la societat catalana i rigor acadèmic, per tal de fer un seguiment i una avaluació de la llengua catalana, tant pel que fa al seu ús social com pel que fa al marc legal en què es desenvolupa.

This is a website created and managed by a group of parents of Breton-speaking pupils, who are campaigning against the measures aiming to decrease the number of school hours in Breton in a number of educational centres in Brittany. Apart from providing information on their claims, visitors can also sign a public petition in this regard.

Es tracta d’un lloc web creat i gestionat per un grup de pares d’alumnes de llengua bretona que estan duent a terme una campanya en contra de les mesures que preveuen la retallada de les hores lectives en llengua bretona en un nombre de centres escolars de la Bretanya. «Pour que Vivent nos Langues» association was set up on May 2000 in Paris by representatives of several movements, associations, parties or personalities concerned with the defence of cultural rights according to the current conception of human rights, who claim for the recognition and promotion of the different languages and cultures in France, defend the world’s linguistic and cultural diversity and reject all kinds of xenophobia. The goals of the association are the amendment of the French constitution in order that it recognises social and territorial linguistic pluralism, the full ratification by France of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, adopted in 1992 by the Council of Europe, etc.

L'association "Pour que Vivent nos Langues" a été créée le 6 mai 2000 à Paris par des représentants de différents mouvements, associations, partis ou personnalités, attachés à la défense de droits culturels en conformité avec la conception actuelle des droits de l'homme, qui demandent la reconnaissance et la promotion des différentes langues et cultures en France, défendent la diversité linguistique et culturelle dans le monde et rejettent toute xénophobie. Les objectifs de l'association sont d'obtenir la modification de la Constitution française pour que soit reconnue la pluralité linguistique du territoire et de la société ; la ratification pleine et entière par la France de la Charte européenne des langues régionales ou minoritaires, adoptée en 1992 par le Conseil de l'Europe, etc.

Vast collection of linguistic legislation in the Valencian Autonomous Community, divided by type of legal provision and by topics. It has been developed on the basis of different legislative databases, among which are that of the Valencian Government (CIDJA) and the website of the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia. The website is enlarged and updated on a regular basis, although the documentation selected is made according to its relevance and social impact.

Extens recull de legislació lingüística del País Valencià ordenat per disposicions i per temes. Ha estat elaborat a partir de diferents bases de dades legislatives, entre les quals destaquen la de la Generalitat Valenciana (CIDJA) i el web del Departament de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya. The Institute of Galician Language has uploaded the “Computerised Treasure of the Galician Language”. It is a database made up of more than 11.000 entries plus some 90 thousand topics, all of them gathered from Galician texts from 1612 until the present times. The project, which was developed at the Institute of the Galician Language, was conceived as a corpus of modern Galician aiming to subsequently create a dictionary.

O Instituto da Lingua Galega acaba de colgar na rede o Tesouro Informatizado da Lingua Galega. Trátase dunha base de datos composta por máis de 11 millóns de rexistros e arredor de 90 mil lemas, recollidos todos eles de textos galegos do período que comprende desde 1612 ata a actualidade. O proxecto, que se desenvolveu no seo do Instituto da Lingua Galega, foi ideado como un corpus do galego moderno orientado á posterior elaboración dun dicionario.

The Research Institute for the Languages of Finland studies and serves to maintain Finnish, Swedish, Saami, Finnish sign language and Romani, and also studies the cognate languages of Finland. Most of the results of the research are published as dictionaries. The Language Planning Department offers telephone guidance and organises different courses in language upkeep for the general public. The library and the archives are also accessible to everybody.

L’Institut de Recerca per a les Llengües de Finlàndia estudia i està al servei del manteniment del finès, el suec, el sami, la llengua de signes finesa i el romaní, a més d’estudiar altres llengües vinculades a Finlàndia. In this European Commission’s site one can find short reports on the current state of play in each Member State on the implementation of the Race Equality Directive into national law. These reports were prepared in October 2003 by the independent experts group in race and religious discrimination which is funded under the Community Action Programme to combat discrimination. The contents of the published reports do not necessarily reflect the opinion or position of national authorities or of the European Commission.

En aquest lloc web oficial de la Comissió Europea hi podeu trobar informes breus sobre l’estat actual d’aplicació de la Directiva d’Igualtat Racial en legislació interna de cada estat membre. Aquests informes foren preparats durant l’octubre de 2003 pel grup d’experts independents en discriminació racial i religiosa, el qual és finançat pel Programa d’Acció Comunitària per combatre la discriminació.
